Monet and Japan- Painting
In this unit students learnt how artists are inspired by the world around them. After studying the practice of Monet, students visited Shoyoen Japanese Gardens where they gathered photographs and generated their own subject matter for a Monet inspired painting that they created back in the classroom.
The Human Figure in Sculpture- Sculpture
Students learnt how artists express ideas about emotion by using the human form. They looked at the work of different sculptors including Alberto Giacometti. Giacometti made his sculptures during and after the war years. Never far from his mind was the way that war had affected society and the individual. His skinny, elongated people seem to have had the life sucked out of them.
